Having sold 10.61 million vehicles in 2017, the new auto group of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi has said that they are the largest car seller in the world right now. However, that doesn’t quite add up, especially when you take into consideration that the Volkswagen group sold 10.74 million vehicles. So what gives? The thing is, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi is counting only specific types of vehicles - in particular they are focusing on the sales of cars that are deemed as only, well, cars. Volkswagen on the other hand has manufacturers that include all sorts of heavy duty rides like trucks and SUVs. What do you think? Is it Germany's Volkswagen Group - which knocked Toyota off the top spot in the 2016 figures?Or one of the newer conglomerates which encompasses several car companies?Perhaps the US titan, General Motors, has fought back?The answer: well, it depends on what carmakers include in their global sales numbers.
